The Seventh annual City of Sugar Hill Fall Festival opened on a beautiful fall day, with blue skies and perfect temperatures. The day kicked off at 10am with the festival opening parade. Floats, dancers, local schools, and several dignitaries led the gathering throng to E.E. Robinson Park where a vast array of rides, games, arts & crafts, and food vendors awaited them. Exceptional handmade crafts were on display in over 45 booths. From toys, jewelry, clothing, to one of a kind unique crafts, there was something for everyone. The food booths were jammed with hungry fair goers all day, (an estimated 7,000 attendees total), and after taking in the climbing wall, spider bounce, and moon walks it was time for ice cream and cold drinks for the kids. In another area of the park a petting zoo, with feeding stations was popular with youngsters of all ages, especially when the exotic animals were brought out to the gathered crowd. Bobcats, wolves, snakes, and alligators, had the audience on the edge of their seats. Behind the zoo a large stage featured live music all day with several local bands from Sugar Hill performing. During the day judges were sampling chili from six competitors to determine the winners of the Chili Cook-off Competition. The tasty chili samples ran out early due to the large crowd getting free samples. On the lower soccer field, the hot rod and custom car show was underway with fifty five classic cars, 50s customs, and late model rods and trucks. The beautiful paint jobs sparkled in the sun, and the chrome engines were so bright you needed sunglasses to view them. The City of Sugar Hill Fall Festival is focused on making this a fun day for children. The games, rides and entertainment are geared for the kids. We are very fortunate to have civic minded sponsors that help defray the cost of putting on the event for the community. Thanks to The Family Church volunteers, the City Recreation Department, and our Mayor and City Council for putting on such a fine event. |
