International phenomenon, Village People will have everyone off their seats and dancing in The Bowl on June 23rd. Village People will be co-headlining with the iconic sibling group, Sister Sledge. Village People began in 1977 and was initially only Victor Willis recording with background singers. Their album quickly rose to the top of the dance charts. It immediately became apparent that they needed to form a group and embark on a worldwide tour. With hits like “San Francisco/In Hollywood,” “Macho Man,” “YMCA,” and “In the Navy,” the group sold more than 100 million records worldwide, has been featured in dozens of major motion pictures and won multiple awards. Touring partner, Sister Sledge, began as a group of four sisters, Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy (Kathy stepped away in 1989). Performing jazz, soul, gospel, disco and R&B, the multi-lead vocal group flourished both in-studio and onstage. The sisters dazzled audiences and critics with their hits, “We Are Family,” and “He’s the Greatest Dancer.” Over the years, the group has amassed a string of Gold and Platinum records and over 100 awards and commendations.
