Notes and Quotes-8/21/2020

    • Duck Names

    -The highly anticipated duck names reveal was shared on social media on Wednesday, August 19th. The successful video (seen by an audience of over 3,000 people and growing) showed that the duck names selected by the public were Sugar, Shine, Walter, and Gracie. It was also shared with the public that instead of the originally advertised pair of ducks, we would be welcoming 4 ducks home to the downtown pond.

    -Duck food will be available for purchase at the Customer Service desks located inside City Hall and the E Center Gym. Each cup of food is $1.00.

    -Signage will be placed at the pond informing guests where to purchase food, as well as reminding them that fishing in the pond is prohibited and that dogs are to be on leash at all times.

    -NOTE: Sugar, Shine, Walter, and Gracie are expected to be reintroduced to the Sugar Hill Pond this coming Tuesday, August 25th.

      • ShopSugarHillGA.com

      -We are excited to share that our new online merchandise store, shopsugarhillga.com has officially launched and been made public today! The new online shop is where residents can purchase the water bottles and stickers that were shared with council last week as well as several other novel Sugar Hill items. The store will operate as an online store front that can be shopped from the comfort of your home. Orders will be picked up from Customer Service located inside City Hall. We look forward to growing our Sugar Hill merchandise in the coming months.

      • Gary Pirkle Park Field Expansion Project

      -The Gary Pirkle Park field expansion project began early this week.  In order to complete the construction, we will be closing the fields and trails on the east side of the park until February 2021, making every effort to minimize the impact to the parking areas and Austin Garner entrance. During construction the remaining areas of the park will be open and operational. We will be sharing progress photos on our website and social media throughout the construction process.

      • Advanced Disposal Summer Cleaning Event Reminder

      -The Advanced Disposal Summer Cleaning Event will take place next week, August 24-28th on your regular pick-up day.  This messaging has been shared on social media, the website, and in last month’s gas bills. Should anyone have any questions about items that can or cannot be accepted, please share with them the attached flyer or direct them to https://cityofsugarhill.com/advanced-disposal-spring-cleaning-event-rescheduled/.

      -As a reminder, for those who are unsure if they are located within Sugar Hill city limits, please contact Customer Service at 770-945-6716.

      • Annual Sweep the Hooch Event

      -The annual Sweep the Hooch event, hosted by Councilmembers Hembree and Anderson in conjunction with the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper organization, will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Information about the cause and how to volunteer for the event can be found here.   

      • Public Projects Construction Update-8/21/2020

      -With several new projects getting started in Sugar Hill we encourage you to check the page for regular updates.

      • Employee Retirement

      -24 year Sugar Hill Golf Course employee, Tommy Everett, has retired. His last day with the city was Friday, August 21st. We thank him for his years of service and wish him and his wife the best in retirement.

      -A special socially distanced ceremony with Tommy and city management staff was held in council chambers on Tuesday, August 17th.

      -Staff presented Tommy with a framed aerial image of the Sugar Hill Golf Course he helped nurture during his tenure at the city.

      • Municipal Special Election

      -Qualifying for the unexpired term of City Council Post 4 seat vacated by Curtis Northrup will be held on Monday, August 24th through the close of business on Wednesday, August 26th.

      -The Municipal Special  Election will be conducted at City Hall on Tuesday, November, 3rd. 

      -Note that the normal General Election polling place for some Sugar Hill residents (the old Community Center) will not be available this election.  The new polling location will be at Sycamore Elementary.

      • Sugar Hill Greenway

      -There will be a virtual Friends of the Greenway Meeting on August 31st  at 6:00 pm.

      -We are excited about the progress of the Greenway and look forward to a great turnout. Details to come.
