  • Duck Update

- Sugar, Shine, Walter, and Gracie arrived at Sugar Hill Pond on Tuesday, August 25th . They are taking to their new home nicely! The city has not shared publicly that the ducks have arrived to deter guests from visiting them during their adjustment period but plan on sharing lots of cute photos and videos soon.

  • Rubber Duck Fundraiser

-The City of Sugar Hill has partnered with the Gwinnett Tech Foundation and Quantum Bank to raise funds for the Parker Killian Gives Moore Scholarship. The scholarship supports up to 5 veterinary technician students with their books and class fees. To raise the funds, we will be selling Sugar Hill branded rubber ducks for $3.00 at our online merchandise store. Quantum Bank will be matching $1.00 of every duck sold to help us reach our fundraising goal. Also available online will be an option to donate a sum larger than the $3.00 duck purchase. 100% of all purchases and donations go to the scholarship foundation.

    • Movie Under the Stars Event

    -The events team will be hosting the “Movie Under the Stars” event this evening in downtown Sugar Hill. From 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Teen Dads will be playing live music on the promenade. At 8:30 pm, Frozen 2 will be shown in The Bowl. This event in free to the public and has been shared on our social media. The G Sisters will be at the event selling specialty popcorn. Social distancing will be enforced and masks are encouraged for all guests to wear.

    • Virtually Festive Sugar Rush 2020

    -The city shared with public this week that the 2020 Sugar Rush Festival has been moved to a virtual platform. There will be an online marketplace open to the public from October 1st-18th, 2020. The events team is now accepting applications from artists and businesses who wish to be a part of the event. There will be virtual, interactive events on October 17th in honor of Sugar Rush. For details and updates, please refer to the event page.  Suwanee has also proposed a virtual format and several other cities are wrestling with decisions on events earlier in the fall.

    • Friends of the Greenway Meeting

    -There will be a virtual/in-person hybrid, Friends of the Greenway Meeting on August 31st  at 6:00 pm. 

    -Members of the Friends of the Greenway have been given the option to attend the meeting via WebEx or in-person at City Hall.

    • Emergency Management Plans

    -Staff has been working with the County on updates to our Emergency Management Plans to address new facilities and staff organization in the event of an emergency.

    • Small Business Webinar

    -Rob Coleman, Director of Business Development for Hennessey Digital, will be volunteering his time and expertise to host a Search Engine Optimization webinar, free of charge, on September 1st at 1:00 pm.

    -“Power Up Your Business Growth with Local SEO”-Increase your visibility in Google search, be found by your prospective customers, and grow your business.

    • ShopSugarHillGA.com

    -Our new online merchandise store, shopsugarhillga.com launched last week and has seen over 900 visitors and 20 purchases in the first week.

    • Advanced Disposal Summer Cleaning Event Reminder

    -The Advanced Disposal Summer Cleaning Event took place this week, August 24-28th.  Information was shared in advance of the week on social media, the website, and in last month’s gas bills. Although there was more tonnage than in previous years, it went well for the most part with only a few areas being delayed until the following morning.

    • Public Projects Construction Update

    -With several new projects popping up in Sugar Hill we encourage you to frequently explore the page for regular updates.

    • Municipal Special Election

    -Qualifying for the unexpired term of City Council Post 4 seat vacated by Curtis Northrup was held on Monday, August 24th through the close of business on Wednesday, August 26th.

    -Two candidates qualified for candidacy for Post 4.

    -The Municipal Special Election will be conducted at city hall on Tuesday, November, 3rd. 

    -Note that the normal General Election polling place for some Sugar Hill residents (the old Community Center) will not be available this election.  The new polling location will be at Sycamore Elementary.
