  • Notes and Quotes-8/7/2020


    • Art/History Room Buildout

    -The bid for the art/history room buildout was opened this Thursday, August 6th at 4:00 pm.

    • Property Sale – 2.6 Acres on Hillcrest.

    -Sealed bids are being accepted for the sale of 7 tax parcels (approximately 2.6 +/- acres), along the west side of Hillcrest Drive in downtown Sugar Hill. 

    -Bids are being accepted until next Tuesday, August 11th at 4PM.

    • Millage Rates Hearings

    -As a reminder, the final millage rate public hearing will be held on Monday, August 10th at 7:30 pm.

    • Downtown Ducks Update

    -The Name the Ducks campaign wrapped up voting on Wednesday, August 5th at 5:00 pm. The duck names reveal has been postponed to allow our feathered friends a little more time to get settled into their new home. We look forward to sharing the names publicly in the coming weeks.

    -Additionally, the city has partnered with Quantum Bank and the Gwinnett Tech Foundation in a fundraising event for the Parker Killian Gives Moore Scholarship Fund. We will be selling City of Sugar Hill branded rubber ducks on our new (to be announced on Wednesday, August 12th) online merchandise store, shopsugarhillga.com. Quantum Bank has generously offered to match $1 for every duck sold to help us achieve our fundraising goal of $1,500.

    • Economic Recovery Task Force Recommendations

    -The Economic Recovery Task Force will present preliminary recommendations at Monday's City Council meeting.

    • Splash Park Update

    -Scheduled maintenance on the Splash Park was performed on Monday and Tuesday this week. The Splash Park was able to re-open on Wednesday, August 5th.

    • 2020 Concert Season Postponement

    -The official announcement was made on social media on Thursday, August 6th that the 2020 Concert Season at The Bowl has been postponed to 2021.

    • GMA Equity and Inclusion Panel Hosted by Georgia Public Broadcasting

    -Yesterday, August 6th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, GMA joined Georgia Public Broadcasting to host “Cities United: The Road to Equity and Inclusion.” The virtual town hall event was to begin a statewide conversation on race, equity, and inclusion, how these issues impact Georgia’s communities, and how city officials can make equity a priority in their communities. The recording of the broadcast can be accessed here.

    -The panel included:

      • Jim Thornton, LaGrange Mayor, Co-Chair, GMA Equity and Inclusion Commission
      • Hardie Davis, Augusta Mayor, Co-chair, GMA Equity and Inclusion Commission
      • Keisha Lance Bottoms, Atlanta Mayor
      • Robert Reichert, Macon-Bibb County Mayor
      • Special remarks from Rep. Calvin Smyre, Georgia House of Representatives


    • Leaf and Limb Chipping Operations Updates

    -Chipping operations will begin every other week service starting on August 3rd. August chipping will take place during the weeks of 8/3, 8/17, and 8/31.

    -Limbs should be stacked neatly at the curb, or edge of pavement in right-of-way, before 7:00 am Monday morning for Monday through Friday pick-up.

    -No more than one (1) pile per household.

    -The pile should be no longer than 6 feet in length, 4 feet in height, and 4 feet in width.

    -No trash, dirt, or stumps will be picked up. These items cannot be processed through the chipper.

    -No limbs cut by a tree service or landscape companies will be picked up. They must be removed by the company.

    -Bagged yard debris collection is the day before your regular garbage day.

                  -Paper lawn bags and trash bags are accepted, Sugar Hill pre-printed bags are not required.

                  -Bags should not exceed 50 pounds in weight.

                  -Do not place trash, dirt, sand, gravel, or stumps in bags.

    -NOTE: All schedules are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, events, or emergencies. Changes will be communicated to the public via social media channels, email notification, and on the city website.
