Notes and Quotes-July 10th, 2020

Good afternoon,

The "Notes and Quotes" is a weekly internal communication intended only for city management staff and customer service. This communication will provide key talking points related to current projects and events as well as information that we see as pertinent for you to be knowledgeable about.

‌

  • Notes and Quotes-7/10/2020

    • Sparks in the Parks 2020 Canceled

-The Sparks in the Park 2020 event intended to be held on August 1st, has been canceled. The cancellation comes after careful deliberation and consideration of the scale of the event, the number of positive cases of COVID-19, and the health and welfare of our community, guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors that make this night possible. To alert the public, this information was distributed to the media as well as through our social media channels on Wednesday, June 8th.   The reaction on social media has been mostly positive and understanding.

    • Downtown Construction Activities

-The Holbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care project is under construction.  Substantial site development work has occurred since the closing on June 24th.

-The Broadstone by Alliance received its partial CO (Certificate of Occupancy) for the first and second floors of the main building last week and leasing has been robust. The West Broad streetscape is nearing completion. The decorative street lights will be reinstalled next week.

-The Bower by Prestwick continues construction. First to be completed will be the two Big Houses on the back of the property. Prestwick will start construction next on the four main structures that surround the slip deck.

    • Chattahoochee River District Public Information Meeting

-The city owns nearly 260 acres bounded by Highway 20 to the south, Suwanee Dam Road to the east, Richland Creek to the north, and the Chattahoochee River Park to the West including our award-winning golf course. The purpose of the meeting is to obtain input toward a concept plan for appropriate future uses of these properties. A few planning documents and maps are beneficial to the prospective stakeholders and can be found on our planning department’s webpage:

    Time: 6:00 – 8:00PM
Location: Sugar Hill City Hall, Council Chambers
Format: Drop-In Open House after a short orientation/introduction. Masks are recommended and we will be pacing groups through to provide proper social-distancing.

    • Future Greenway Phase Open House and Interactive Map

-The City is seeking input on a future phase of the Greenway project and has sent out a call-to-action on our social channels to ask residents to provide their input and ideas on a virtual, interactive map. To view the project or include additional contribution please visit www.wikimapping.com/sugarhillgreenway1.html.

-On Wednesday, July 15th a virtual open house to present prospective alignment factors as well as design considerations of the future Greenway phase will be held from 2-3 pm. This open house offers an opportunity to learn about how the existing conditions of the study area will influence the conceptual design and consider alternative routes for this segment of trail. • Annual Community Champion Award to be Renamed

-After the recent and tragic passing of Sugar Hill resident Susan Roebuck, the mayor and council on Monday night at the July Council Meeting will rename the city’s annual Community Champion award the “Susan Roebuck Community Champion Award” to honor her memory and her dedication to the city. Susan was a one-of-a-kind community champion and we hope that renaming this award will be a permanent reminder of the incredible and unselfish work she did for the community she loved.
