Scholarship Application 2021

Mission: The Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society (SHHPS) exists to discover, promote and preserve the rich history of Sugar Hill. The SHHPS scholarship seeks to bridge the past and present by connecting Sugar Hill students with their roots and to encourage excitement for local history in celebration of our community.
Scholarship Essay and Theme:
Your generation is living through many historically significant moments that will impact our lives for years to come. Pick a significant event from 2020. Imagine telling your grandchildren about this event in the future. Include how this event impacted your life personally as well as your community.
Word Limit: 1000 words
Award: Essays will be reviewed by a committee and evaluated on historical accuracy, relevancy to the theme, creativity, and use of sources/research. The winning recipient will be notified no later than Friday, May 28th. The Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society will write a check for the scholarship funds payable directly to the recipient’s school. *Scholarships are awarded based on merit and integrity alone,without regard to name, race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

● 2021 High School Graduate
● Applicants must be admitted as a full-time student at a college, university, or trade school program for the 2021 Fall academic
● Completed application
● Proof of residency – copy of driver’s license or copy of recent gas bill
● Statement of Accuracy (see attached)
● Essay (no more than 1000 words)
Application and Submission:
All materials including application, essay, proof of address, proof of full-time status and Statement of Accuracy must be posted to the website by Wednesday, March 31. No late applications or material will be accepted.
