Sugar Hill’s Historic Preservation Society Opens Scholarship Application

Sugar Hill, GA – Feb. 22, 2022 – The Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society is now accepting applications for the organization’s continuing education scholarship.

The $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one Sugar Hill student who will be attending college or technical school during the Fall of 2022. Applicants are asked to write an essay discussing one of the Sugar Hill History Museum exhibits. Additional requirements include:

– 2022 High School Graduate

– Completed Application

– Proof of Sugar Hill Residency

Historic Preservation Society members hope this scholarship opportunity will encourage students to reflect on Sugar Hill’s history and dig deeper into the community they call home. Mayor Brandon Hembree, who was instrumental in the founding of the Society, said, “A lot of people are moving to Sugar Hill from around the world, and many of them are not aware of the city’s rich history. This scholarship gives students an opportunity to learn about Sugar Hill’s early days in a way that interests them.”

The Society’s chairwoman, Kathryn Baskin encourages students to apply for the scholarship. “We are very excited to offer this opportunity. We can learn so much by looking at our history through the eyes of the youth,” said Kathryn.

Applications are due April 10. The Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society will be hosting a scholarship informational session at the History Museum, 5010 West Broad St., on Thursday, March 24 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. For more information or to apply, visit
