Sugar Hill to Hold Public Hearings on 2024 Millage Rate

Sugar Hill, GA, Aug. 30, 2024 – The Sugar Hill City Council will consider the adoption of the 2024 Millage Rate at a special-called meeting on September 16, 2024, at 6:00pm. The city will be running the first of two official legal ads in the Gwinnett Daily Post on Sunday, September 1, 2024, and again on Sunday, September 8, 2024, to start the required process.

City Council has tentatively adopted a millage rate of 3.69 mils. This is the same rate as 2023.

Three public hearings are scheduled to receive public input. All hearings will be held in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 5039 West Broad Street, Sugar Hill, Georgia.

September 9th – 9:00am

September 9th – 7:30pm

September 16th – 6:00pm for final adoption

In 2023, Sugar Hill property owners were given the largest city property tax cut in decades. The millage rate was lowered from 3.80 to 3.69 mils.  In addition, the city’s homestead exemption was increased from $2,000 to $10,000, and senior exemptions were increased from $4,000 to $20,000.

The proposed 2024 tax increase for a homestead property with an average fair market value of $450,000, is $28.08 per year, or $2.34 per month. The proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with an average fair market value of $425,000, is approximately $26.52 per year, or $2.21 per month.
