The Sugar Hill Mayor and City Council conducted the last of three public hearings regarding the 2024 millage rate on Monday, September 16, 2024. The council voted to reduce the city millage rate from 3.69 mils to 3.50 mils. In 2023, the previous Mayor and Council reduced the millage rate from 3.80 mils to 3.69 mils. Prior to these last two reductions, the millage rate had remained level at 3.80 mils for nineteen (19) consecutive years.
City property tax bills using this new millage rate will be sent out to all Sugar Hill property owners over the next few weeks. Payments will be due in November.
According to Mayor Brandon Hembree, “Owners who filed for homestead exemptions by January 1 of 2024, will see additional property tax savings because of the increase in the city’s general homestead exemption from $2,000 to $10,000. Eligible seniors will see an additional tax savings because of the increase in the city’s senior homestead exemption from $2,000 to $10,000.”
