Gold Mine Park

Although Dahlonega's major claim to fame is its gold mines, many of the initial settlers of Sugar Hill were in fact gold miners. Many of these miners mined from Sugar Hill all the way to the Chattahoochee River. As a celebration of this heritage, the City of Sugar Hill is building a 9.2-acre park named "Gold Mine Park," which will sit along Level Creek Road and will serve as a trail head to the Sugar Hill Greenway. The 16-mile trail, which will circle around the city, will take hikers by one of the city's old gold mines. Although the gold has been long depleted, hikers can enjoy a beautiful part of Sugar Hill's unique history. The Gold Mine Park will be apart of the city's effort of building the first segment of the trail.
