Alvin Hicks is a dedicated community advocate and city councilman for the vibrant city of Sugar Hill. Having resided in Sugar Hill since 2014, Alvin has developed a deep understanding and love for the community he serves.
In 2022, Alvin stepped up to fill an unexpired term, showcasing his commitment to making a positive impact on the city. As the city liaison for the Sugar Hill youth council, Alvin actively engages with the younger generation, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. He is also heavily involved in the educational sector, particularly in the Lanier and North Gwinnett cluster of schools within the Sugar Hill area. Alvin recognizes the importance of a quality education and strives to support and enhance the educational experiences of the youth in his community.
Beyond his involvement in youth-related initiatives, Alvin is equally passionate about serving the elderly. Recognizing the wisdom and experience they possess, he advocates for their rights and well-being, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.
Alvin’s journey to becoming a city councilman is rooted in his own personal experiences. Raised by a single mother in Richmond, Virginia, he understands the challenges faced by many families and individuals. In 1996, Alvin made the decision to move to Georgia, seeking new opportunities and a better life. This personal journey has shaped his perspective and fuels his drive to create a thriving and inclusive community in Sugar Hill.
Outside of his civic duties, Alvin is actively involved in student ministry and youth development. He believes in empowering the younger generation to reach their full potential and become future leaders. Additionally, Alvin is a devoted family man. He has been happily married to his wife, Tawona Hicks, and together they have two wonderful children, Kierstin and Jace.
Professionally, Alvin has been a valued employee at AT&T for over 21 years, where he currently serves as a network operations manager. His extensive experience in the telecommunications industry has equipped him with valuable skills in problem-solving, communication, and leadership.
With his unwavering dedication, community-focused mindset, and diverse experiences, Alvin Hicks continues to make a significant impact as a city councilman for Sugar Hill. He remains committed to fostering a strong sense of community, advocating for the needs of all residents, and ensuring a bright future for the city he proudly calls home.
