Alton Tucker Blvd Extension. This project’s objective is to improve the intersection of Level Creek Rd and West Broad Street, as well as extending Alton Tucker to Highway 20 at the east end of the E Center property. The grading and gravel base for the extension to Highway 20 are substantially complete. New drainage structures, curb and gutter as well as a new section of the driveway to the E Center and The Landing are all installed to the gravel base level. Work will soon begin on the intersection of Level Creek with West Broad St. This will necessitate a full closure in January of West Broad at that location as they complete the items associated with that area and the Level Creek intersection. Look for this project to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.
Street Paving and Repair. We are advertising for a construction partner to perform the work for the 2024 LMIG street paving program. We recently applied for and received a grant for a portion of the funds required to complete this project. SPLOST receipts will fund some of this roadwork as well. The project is expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2024.
These are the streets that will be repaved as a part of this project, totaling about 2.5 miles:

Highway 20 Pedestrian Bridge. Design work is well underway for this project that serves to connect the south side of highway 20’s greenway trail infrastructure with that to the north. The project’s inspiration comes from the city’s planning efforts to develop a downtown master plan in 2005 and has been in our capital improvement budget since 2017. The general layout, size and construction materials have been decided. Next will be the aesthetics and the permitting with GDOT. Once those parameters are set, we can advertise for a construction partner. Anticipated completion date is early 2025.
Downtown Greenway/LCI Project. This project is funded by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, so the process is a little different. The first step is to prepare a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from pre-qualified design firms. We have submitted that to GDOT, and once approved, we will be able to advertise for a design partner. It will provide an urban greenway connection from PIB/20 to Alton Tucker and then on back to Highway 20. The timeline will be determined once we have the design finished.
Whitehead Road Sidewalks. This project is in the beginning stages of design and Right of Way (ROW) acquisition. Once those items are completed, we will advertise for a construction partner. We anticipate a mid-2024 completion date.
Northside Greenway. As part of their developments, Novare Sugar Hill, The Refinery by Prestwick and Hillcrest Landing are constructing over a half-mile of the Greenway to the North of Hwy 20 and along Hillcrest Dr. This will consist of a winding segment from Stanley St. through their developments and connecting to the sidewalk on Hillcrest Dr. at Brookdale Dr. Future segments will connect this area to the Richland Creek area. This portion of the project should be completed in 2024.
Hillcrest Dr. Sidewalks. This project will connect the Northside Greenway between The Refinery by Prestwick and Hillcrest Landing. This short project is substantially complete and will be final in January.
First Ave. Sidewalks. This project’s scope includes the construction a 5’ sidewalk, curb and gutter on the south side of First Ave. from PIB to Chapel Avenue and was bourne out of the downtown master plan update in 2018 to our LCI. This project should be completed early in 2024.
