Sugar Hill Greenway
The section of trail from Gold Mine Park to Whitehead Rd. was paved last week. Work on grading the shoulders and stabilizing the slopes on either side of the trail continues. Gwinnett County Water Resource Department is working in one 40’ section on a new sewer line that will interrupt the continuity of trail segment. When all trail construction is complete, the entire 4.7 miles of phase 1 will be ready to enjoy.
Gold Mine Park.
Tri Scapes, our contractor, has completed the pavement portion of the park and now moves on to installing a dumpster enclosure and storage building, striping the parking spaces and entrance lanes, commissioning the street crossing lights and finishing up some other small details. Completion is dependent on some long lead time items such as handrails on the boardwalk and bollards in the parking lot.
Greenway Signage.
This project is ready to roll out in the next few weeks. Consisting of Pylon signs, mileage markers, and wayfinding maps, these signs will let you know that the Greenway is a special space.
E Center Event Space.
The space is substantially complete with just a few punch list items to finish up.
The space has already been used as a relaxation area for the acts that played in the Bowl as well as for several internal meetings. We anticipate opening it up to renters as soon as the permanent furniture arrives in the next few weeks.
Ridge Lake Park.
The Guaranteed Maximum Price for the new park that will be on the 22 acres the city owns off Highway 20 was approved at the September Council meeting. Consisting of a parking area, rest room building with covered seating area, a dog park, pond improvements and trails; it will be the newest place to relax and unwind. Many of the amenities in the park were suggested by the public during open houses that we held in 2017 and 2018.
Gary Pirkle Park Restroom Building.
Design is well underway on a restroom building to serve the new fields on the South side of the park. They will incorporate 7 unisex stalls and a water bottle filling station. We will advertise for a construction partner when the design is finished.
Bowl Pond Improvements.
Intended to make this amenity more stable and usable, these improvements include replacing the failed outlet that regulates pond water level and prevents flooding, a new pavilion area for events, congregating or just relaxing and a new parking area that will also serve as a load in area for concerts and performances.
We have a guaranteed maximum price and the contractor, Barnsley Construction Group, anticipates starting construction in November.
Alton Tucker Extension.
The survey work is complete and design work is well underway for an extension of Alton Tucker Blvd. This project will improve the intersection of Level Creek Rd and West Broad Street, as well as extending Alton Tucker to Highway 20 at the east end of the E Center property. When design work is complete, we will then advertise for a construction partner.
Gwinnett County Speed Hump Program.
The County will begin a speed hump construction project on Whitehead Rd. in October. Consisting of 10 raised tables, it will go from the roundabout at West Broad St to Arbor View Lane. It was requested by residents on that street and obtained the signatures necessary for the petition to be approved by the County.
