Sugar Hill, GA, July 2024—The Sugar Hill Art Gallery is excited to announce an upcoming exhibition featuring the acclaimed artist Olu Amoda, the 2023 Hudgens Prize recipient. The exhibition will run from July 18 to September 19, 2024, at the Sugar Hill Art Gallery located at 5010 West Broad Street, Sugar Hill, GA, 30518. A special reception will be held on August 16 from 6-8 p.m., offering light refreshments and snacks for attendees.

Originally from Okere-Warri, Olu Amoda has gained international recognition for his unique and innovative multimedia art. Currently, Amoda is undertaking a residency at Dillon Forge in Atlanta, Georgia. This residency has provided Amoda access to various steel defects and rejects produced during the blacksmithing process. He creatively repurposes these materials to craft stylized sculptures, contributing to his ongoing Freeforms series.

“A social construct emerged from the dialogue of steel, its materiality, and repurposing to create familiar subjects from social media and intuitively from my life experiences. Each sculpture has a linear dimension and mass weight, which mimic each subject matter invertedly,” stated Amoda.
