NOTICE OF PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Sugar Hill City Council will consider the adoption of the 2025 Millage Rate at a special-called meeting on September 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The city will be running the first of two official legal ads in the Gwinnett Daily Post on Sunday, August 24, 2025, and again on Sunday, August 31, 2025, to start the required process.

Three public hearings are scheduled to receive public input. All hearings will be held in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 5039 West Broad Street, Sugar Hill, Georgia.

September 8 – 9:00 a.m.

September 8 – 7:30 p.m.

September 15 – 6:00 p.m. for final adoption

In 2023, the city lowered the millage rate from 3.80 mils to 3.69 mils, the first rollback in 16 years.  In 2024, the millage rate was lowered from 3.69 mils to 3.50 mils. Combined with the increased city homestead exemption from $2,000 to $10,000, Sugar Hill property owners saw a reduction in their city property taxes.  For 2025, the city has tentatively adopted the same millage rate as 2024 (3.50 mils).

The proposed 2025 tax increase for a homestead property with an average fair market value of $475,000, is $26.98 per year, or $2.24 per month. The proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with an average fair market value of $500,000, is approximately $28.40 per year, or $2.36 per month.
