In 2039, the City of Sugar Hill will celebrate its centennial anniversary. As we begin the planning process for the upcoming comprehensive plan update, we are connecting with you, our community, to envision what our city will be like at its 100-year anniversary. Join us in imagining Sugar Hill in 2039! What defines us as a community? What makes us stronger? What are the current challenges we need to overcome between now and then? In what ways are we more vibrant and resilient? Where do we need to prioritize investment in our social, economic, and environmental resources? In what ways do our neighborhoods, citizen groups, business districts, parks and greenspaces display our unique personalities? Our comprehensive plan should help us answer these questions and guide future policy and investment decisions with current and future generations in mind.

A comprehensive plan is a policy guide that assesses current conditions, projects future trends, establishes goals, develops strategies, and sets up a short-term work plan for a city. It casts a vision for community wide aspirations for the coming years creating a clear picture of the city’s future. The comprehensive plan will guide the city’s policy decisions and work program over the next five years. To ensure that the comprehensive plan is the best representation of what the city can and should be like in the future near and far, we need to hear from the diversity of voices that make up our community. What do we collectively want the community to be like in the future, and what does the path look like for us to get there? We need your input to know what we are striving for; this is only possible with active collaboration from every corner of our Sugar Hill community!

The only constant in community and other living systems is that they constantly change, so it is vital that the comprehensive plan be updated to maintain relevancy to our current and future community. It is important to maintain an up-to-date idea of community preferences, demographics, and market conditions so the comprehensive plan can be a reliable guide to help us navigate that inevitable change. Additionally, for various funding, permitting, and incentive programs administered by the State of Georgia, it is required that comprehensive plans be updated every five years.

The planning process is taking place over multiple phases. These phases include connecting to the community through public involvement and gathering data. We will harmonize data gathered with community conversations to imagine our community in 2039 and beyond, aspire to a fresh vision, and invest in a chosen future for Sugar Hill. This process will take place over several months with multiple phases happening simultaneously.
