Position Title: Golf Course Equipment Technician Mechanic/Grounds Crew

City of Sugar Hill Golf Club, Sugar Hill, Georgia, is seeking an experienced Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, and management of all golf course equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure that all machinery operates efficiently to maintain optimal course conditions. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a strong mechanical background and a passion for turf equipment maintenance.
Sugar Hill Golf Club is a family-oriented public golf course located in Gwinnett County Georgia. The club features 18 holes of golf, open six days per week, with a driving range. There is a club house with a nice food and beverage facility.
The Equipment Manager reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for the golf course assets. This program includes diagnostics and repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. Also, provide a weekly equipment report to the Golf Course Superintendent that highlights common preventative maintenance and imminent issues/failures that are recurring that will require large-scale repair, overhaul, or replacement will be required to assist with operational and capital budget forecasting.
Functions:
- Maintains a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
- Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, and equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment.
- Grinds reels/bedknives
- Ensure mower blades and cutting heights are sharp and set properly to achieve high quality playing surfaces and results.
- Ability to perform some machining or welding work for course equipment/projects/etc.
- Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.
- Oversee the daily operation of maintaining a clean, safe service area and maintenance building.
- Teach, train, assist supervise, coach, counsel, schedule and evaluate Turf Care staff concerning the safe and effective operation of equipment.
- Teach, train, assist supervise, coach, counsel, schedule and evaluate golf course mechanic support staff in maintenance and repairs concerning the safe and effective operation of equipment.
- Ability to work proactively relative to equipment maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and loss of staff productivity
- Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work relative to golf course operations
- Assist Superintendent and/ or Assistant Superintendent in any way needed
- Provide other job tasks and duties as assigned
Employment Standards
- Actively communicate any need or problem relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent.
- Provide consultation and/or assistance to other Clubs if necessary.
- Physical work involves kneeling, bending, stretching, and lifting objects of 50lbs
- Promote good culture and team building utilize effective leadership qualities.
- Must be able to walk, speak, see and read the English language
Qualifications
- Experience as the lead Equipment Technician/Manager.
- Working knowledge of various types of golf course maintenance and construction equipment may be required
- Skilled in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair
- Knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, and mowing equipment
- Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work
- Fully qualified to operate a motor vehicle for company business.
- Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records
- The flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
- Working a non-traditional schedule as set by the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure all duties are completed and ensuring overall success of the club and golf courses.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in the use of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail is highly preferred.
Working Conditions:
This job operates in an outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard golf maintenance equipment and deals with weather and environmental conditions.
